Basics of Bingo

Bingo was first played in Italy in the early 1500s. It then spread to France where it was considered to be an elite game. It was much later that bingo was used by Germans to teach basic arithmetic and language skills to their children. After taking Europe by storm, it went on to gain popularity in the US in 1900s. The exciting nature of the game helped it to spread like wild fire across the country and it was played for recreation, profit as well as an important tool of fund raising.

Bingo is an easy game an only requires bingo cards, bingo cages and something to mark the cards. Traditional bingo cards have 25 places with 24 numbers and one blank space. There are educational bingo cards too, that depict pictures of animals, words and other teaching tools.

The cards are marked with daubers and plastic discs. In many places, pieces of corn and similar materials are used to mark the cards. Bingo enthusiasts often purchase custom daubers and lucky charms for their game. After all, getting luck on your side is important with any type of gambling.

Like other types of games, bingo too has its own special terminology. Regular bingo players will tell you all about terms such as blackout, four corners, face, coverall and many more that contribute to making the game even richer. There are several books written specifically for bingo players and there are tournaments where the top bingo players gather to compete for the biggest prizes.
